preparing for your session

before your session

• Getting to Know You

If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to complete my client questionnaire and client contract. This will allow me to get to know you a little better and to better prepare for our upcoming session together. This is due prior to our session.

• What to Wear

First and foremost - be YOU! I want you to be yourself in front of the camera during your portrait session so choose clothing you are comfortable in. If you're not comfortable, it will show in your photos!

Newer (not faded or pilly), wrinkle-free clothing photographs best. The camera picks up more than you think!

Sleeves are more flattering than sleeveless tops on both guys and girls.

Make sure tops, dresses, and bottoms fit comfortably and aren't too tight to prevent unflattering bulges.

Clothing in the same season - no sweaters with sundresses, etc.

Solid color shoes that are clean and not too busy: dress shoes, boots, sandals, sneakers. Shoes make or break your look!

Check out ideas for colors and complementary styles on the Simply Corey Photography Pinterest board.

• What NOT to Wear

I recommend staying away from white. Cream and off-white photograph much better.

Do not choose shirts or dresses with very small stripes, checks, or dots. These will leave weird wavy patterns on your final images called moiré.

Don't wear matching polos/shirts or clothing of the same exact color. Mix it up a little with complementing colors and tones.

Do not wear dirty sneakers or busy running shoes.

• Retouching & Skin

Minor retouching is included and covers small blemishes. If extensive editing is needed, there will be an additional retouching fee.

Sunburns and uneven tans or tan lines will not be retouched without additional fees. Please plan ahead to avoid uneven coloring, “raccoon eyes”, or peeling.

A fresh shave for guys is recommended and any facial hair should be neatly trimmed.

Be sure to get a good night's rest before your session. If you have a late night, your eyes will show it.

• Hair

Wear your hair in a style you're comfortable with and don't try a new style or cut at the last minute. If you need a haircut before your session, plan to do so at least 1 week before to allow for a more natural look. Work with any desired hairstyles a few days before your session to get the look you want in advance.

If you dye your hair, please make sure your roots are touched up prior to our session since these will not be retouched.

Girls and guys alike should stay away from hair products that make the hair reflective or "crispy".

• Makeup & Nails

Even if you don't normally wear makeup, I encourage women to at least wear a light coat of mascara and some lip balm or chapstick.

Avoid glitter, sparkles, highlighters, and too much lip gloss or lotion since all of these tend to reflect light and can leave spots on your skin in your images.

You're welcome to apply your makeup as you normally do or have your makeup done professionally by a local MUA or makeup counter.

Don't forget about your hands! Trim your nails and remove any old nail polish. If you do add color to your nails, make sure it complements all of your clothing choices.

• pets

I love animals and you are more than welcome to include your furbabies in your portrait session. Please let me know ahead of time so we can discuss details!

• Be Ready!

Don’t be late! Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get ready and arrive at your session. You won't want to be rushed and you want to look and feel your best. And remember to use Google Maps or Waze if you're having your session at my location!

• Have Fun!

Breathe - we're going to have a great time together! I'm very laid back and will make every attempt to make you comfortable in front of the camera.

I will be taking a good mix of loosely posed and candid photos during our session and will guide you as needed. Natural expressions are so much better than forced smiles, so you can expect me to (attempt to) make you laugh!

And since these are your images and I want you to love them, please let me know in advance if you have something specific in mind!

• Rescheduling

I completely understand getting sick or injured, I just ask that you notify me as soon as possible if you need to reschedule. If you're sick, please reschedule. Not only will it will show in your portraits, I don't want your germs! Ha!

If inclement weather is forecast for the day of our session, we can wait until up to 1 hour before to decide if we should reschedule.

Re-shoots are not given for regretful personal choices - i.e. hair, clothes, makeup, etc. Fees apply for re-shoots requested by the client.
