WHAT TO EXPECT: IN-HOME NEWBORN SESSIONS

WITH SIMPLY COREY PHOTOGRAPHY

WHAT IS AN IN-HOME NEWBORN SESSION?
In-home newborn sessions are unique to each family, but none of them require rushing everyone out the door, making sure the diaper bag is packed, and trying to remember everything! Some families prefer lifestyle photos taken around the home with baby, some only want the convenience of studio portraits of baby in their home, and some want a little of both!

If you’d like a small studio set up for baby in your home, I will need decent amount of open space to photograph in with an electrical outlet nearby. Wood floors are also preferable, but please let me know if you only have carpet.

I can also make sure to have something for baby to pose with up to 2 smaller siblings. All parent and family photos will be taken around the home. Please be sure to include sibling ages and mark what you’d like to include in the questionnaire I sent you!

WHEN TO HAVE YOUR NEWBORN SESSION
Newborn sessions are best between 5 and 16 days. I do photograph older newborns, but they may not sleep or curl up into newborn poses as well. Swaddles are usually our best friend when it comes to older newborns, but every baby is different and we can follow their lead!

Another reason for an earlier session: baby acne. It happens to almost every baby, so a session before it makes its appearance is the goal. It’s not a problem if your baby already has it! My guide for retouching is; if it’s temporary (acne, scratches, etc.) they get taken out of ordered images. If it’s a birth mark or something permanent, it stays. You’ll want to remember every little detail on your little one!

WHAT I BRING
Props and looks are limited for in-home newborn sessions because I can only bring so much! You will mark your favorite colors in the questionnaire and you can also let me know if you see a certain prop or look you like from my NEWBORN PORTFOLIO. Items may vary, but I typically bring these if studio-style portraits are requested:

  • a studio light
  • 1-2 newborn-sized backdrops for the floor
  • 1-2 styled props to pose baby in
  • a flokati wool for baby and/or younger sibling photos
  • swaddles/wraps
  • newborn outfits/pajamas
  • newborn headbands and/or hats
  • 1-2 newborn-sized stuffed animals for baby to pose with

WHAT TO WEAR: FAMILY MEMBERS
For family photos, solid neutral colors are best – cream, grey, and subdued colors are ideal! Be sure your clothes are ironed/not wrinkled and fit comfortably.

Avoid white, bright or neon colors, big patterns, stripes, tiny checks, and large logos, because all that can take away from the focus on your little one!

You’re welcome to dress up or be casual, just make sure everyone is in the same style.

HOW TO PREPARE
When I arrive, I will ask what areas of your house you would like to use for your session. It’s best to pick one or two rooms that have the best natural light. Master bedrooms, living rooms, baby’s nursery, and spare bedrooms are most common. Opening all blinds and curtains before my arrival will help me to figure out which spaces are best.

Please do not feel the need to deep clean your entire house before I come, however, try to declutter items on counters/floors in the spaces you’d like me to photograph in. Less is more when it comes to in-home sessions.

If you have older kiddos, be sure not to book around nap or meal times so they will be in their best moods! I always try to do the sibling photos first so they can be done faster.

If possible, try and keep your house a little warmer than usual. Babies love being warm and cuddly and warmth will help them sleep better during their session!

AFTER YOUR SESSION
SNEAK PEEK: I typically show a sneak peek within the first couple of business days after your session! These are posted on my Facebook and Instagram accounts, and I will email you to let you know it has been posted so you don’t miss it! And I would love for you to “love” the photo and click on the share option to show your family and friends!

YOUR ORDERING GALLERY: You will choose the images you want from a private online gallery on the client website, approximately 2 weeks after our session. Session galleries are available for 5 consecutive days, and when I email to let you know it’s ready, you’ll let me know when you’d like to start. I will email you the log-in information and other instructions on the day you choose.

You are more than welcome to share your gallery information with family and friends!

BABY’S FIRST YEAR
With your in-home newborn session, you’ll receive a $150 credit toward a milestone or cake smash session within 12 months!
